Okay, so sulphites are a naturally
occurring substance that’s added throughout the winemaking process and at bottling as a preserving agent. On your bottle it might be written as
sulphur dioxide or as preservative 220 but it’s all roughly the same stuff. Now, drinking too much sulphur gives you a hangover, this is an old wives tale that
just refuses to die if you’ve got a hangover it’s probably because you’ve
had one too many. However, in a very small part of the population it can give you
an allergic reaction, but this is going to appear as a bit of a rash or a wheeze,
not as a hangover.
