IN YOUR APP STORE. SOME PEOPLE IN SLIDELL SAY THEY
ARE FED UP WITH A MAJOR CHANGE
IN TRASH PICKUP. IN JUNE, CITY COUNCIL VOTED TO
LIMIT PICKUP TO ONE DAY A WEEK. NEIGHBORS SAY THAT’S SIMPLY NOT
ACCEPTABLE. MICHAEL VINSANAU JOINS US LIVE
FROM SLIDELL WITH WHY NEIGHBORS
SAID THIS IS AN ISSUE. MICHAEL: SOME NEIGHBORS HERE IN
SLIDELL TOLD ME TODAY THEY PUT
THEIR TRASH OUT DAYS BEFORE
— IF THEY MISS TRASH PICKUP,
THEY HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER WEEK. CITY COUNCILMEMBERS TOLD ME THE
TRASH AND RECYCLING COST WAS
RISING, AND WOULD HAVE RAISED
THE COST BY TWO DOLLARS PER
HOUSEHOLD. SO, BACK ON JUNE 25, WHEN
PRESENTED WITH OPTIONS, THEY
VOTED TO REDUCE TRASH PICKUP TO
ONE DAY A WEEK, DROPPING BILLS
BY TWO DOLLARS. NEIGHBORS TOLD ME IT’S NOT
NECESSARILY ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF
TRASH, BUT WHAT’S SITTING IN
THEIR TRASH CAN FOR DAYS
>>A LOT OF LIVES, UNLESS I HAVE
MY FLYCATCHER. MICHAEL: WAS IT LIKE THAT
BEFORE?>>NEVER. NOT REALLY. YOU COULD PUT IT OUT, YOU COULD
EVEN PUT OUT A LITTLE, INSTEAD
OF WAITING FOR A FULL CAN.>>WE HAD A PUBLIC HEARING, WE
ADVERTISED AND DID EVERYTHIN
