SHOCKING New Tactic To Deal With Airline Passenger Meltdowns

IF FLYING DIDN’T SCARE YOU
ENOUGH, KOREAN AIR HAS DECIDED THAT IT WILL NOW TRAIN
ITS FLIGHT ATTENDANTS TO USE TASERS AND IT WILL HIRE MORE
MALE FLIGHT ATTENDANTS TO SUBDUE UNRULY PASSENGERS. THIS HAPPENED AFTER A VIOLENT
OCCURRENCE ON ONE OF ITS FLIGHTS. APPARENTLY THERE WAS A SINGER
AND BY THE NAME OF RICHARD MARX WHO WAS ON A FLIGHT AND A
GUY HAD TOO MUCH TO DRINK SO WE GOT A LITTLE ANIMATED AND
SO THE FLIGHT ATTENDANTS TRIED TO TIE THEM UP WITH ROPE. I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW THAT WAS A
THING THEY DO AND THE GUY GOT OUT OF THE ROPE THREE
SEPARATE TIMES. KOREAN AIR IS RESPONDING BY
GOING A LITTLE OVERBOARD. THEY ARE SAYING THEY’RE GOING TO
PUSH FOR MORE STAFF TRAINING, USE OF THE LATEST DEVICE TO TIE
UP A VIOLENT PASSENGER IN THE BANDING OF PASSENGERS WITH A
HISTORY OF UNRULY BEHAVIOR. MARKS SET ON FACEBOOK AND
TWITTER THAT HE HELPED TO SUBDUE A PSYCHO PASSENGER
ATTACKING CREWMEMBERS AND OTHER PASSENGERS, CRUISING Q CREW
MEMBERS OF BEING ILITCH TRAINED AND ELOQUENT TO HANDLE THAT
CHAOTIC AND DANGEROUS EVENT. I DON’T WANT FLIGHT ATTENDANTS
TO HAVE TASERS. THAT’S INTERESTING. THOSE GUYS AND GIRLS ARE IN A
TOUGH POSITION BECAUSE NOWADAYS, UNFORTUNATELY, I THINK THEY
THROW PEOPLE OFF PLANES LITTLE TO EAT EASILY DIVE GOT SOME
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH THAT. WE ALL BECOME THAT MOVIE ANGER
MANAGEMENT. THEY NAILED THAT YEARS AGO WITH
ADAM SANDLER, PLEASE BECOME SIR. WE HAVE THAT ON A MASS SCALE. IF YOU DO HAVE AN UNRULY
PASSENGER WHICH DOES HAPPEN FROM TIME TO TIME IT’S A HELL OF
A WAY TO SUBDUE THEM. WE HAVE MARSHALS ON SOME OF THE
PLANES HERE SO THEY WIND UP HELPING BUT ON KOREAN AIR, IT IS
DIFFERENT. THE US MARSHALS OBVIOUSLY, AND
SO, I DON’T KNOW. YOU HAVE TO FIND A WAY TO GET
SOMEBODY UNDER CONTROL. I AM WITH YOU ANNA, I DON’T
WANT THEM TO DO IT WAY TOO LOOSELY AND GIVEN HOW MUCH THEY
FEEL EMPOWERED AND THEY ARE THROWING THEIR WEIGHT AROUND,
I AM NOT SURE I WANT OUR FLIGHT ATTENDANTS TO RUN AROUND
WITH TASERS BUT THEY DO NEED SOMETHING. I AM OBVIOUSLY BASING THIS ON
ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE, HAVEN’T SEEN ANY STUDIES, BUT BASED ON THE
INSANE AMOUNT OF TRAVEL I HAD TO DO THIS YEAR FOR WORK, NO, THERE
ARE FIGHT ATTENDANTS THAT FOR NO REASON AT ALL ARE ANGRY
AND UPSET WITH YOU AND YOU HAVEN’T EVEN DONE ANYTHING. I DON’T GIVE THOSE PEOPLE
TASERS. THEY ARE CRANKY, THEY HAVE BEEN
STUCK ON THE PLANE, THEY HAVE TO DEAL WITH ANNOYING
REQUESTS ALL THE TIME. I DON’T THINK IT IS A GOOD J
THING TO GIVE THEM WEAPONS THAT COULD CAUSE PAIN FOR ANY
WENT I THINK THEIR IDEA TO HIRE MORE MALE FLIGHT ATTENDANTS
IS A GOOD IDEA. THEY ONLY HAVE ABOUT 1/10 OF THEIR FLIGHT ATTENDANT STAFF
AS MALES. EVERYONE ELSE’S FEMALE. IF YOU HAVE A MALE PASSENGER WHO
MIGHT BE BIGGER AND UNRULY, IT WOULD HELP TO HAVE A MALE
FLIGHT ATTENDANT GET INVOLVED TO SUBDUE HIM IN SOME
WAY. I JUST THINK IT IS A BAD IDEA TO
PUT ANY TYPE OF WEAPON ON A PLANE. WE’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BRING
WEAPONS IF WE ARE PASSENGERS, I DON’T WANT ANYONE
TO HAVE WEAPONS. SORRY. AM I CRAZY? NO, THEY NEED TO BE ABLE TO
CONTAIN PEOPLE IN SOME WAY BUT I DON’T WANT THEM TO HAVE
WEAPONS I CAN GET OUT OF CONTROL BECAUSE LATELY, THERE
HAVE BEEN A LOT OF CONFLICT BETWEEN PASSENGERS AND FLIGHT
ATTENDANTS AND FLIGHT ATTENDANTS HAVE A SUPERHARD JOB
BUT THEY SEEM TO HAVE BEEN ABUSING THEIR POWERS A LITTLE
BIT LATELY SO YOU GET CONCERNED. I HAVE TOO MANY AMAZING STORIES
ABOUT THIS AND I’M GOING TO SAVE IT FOR THE POST GAME SHOW. TYTNETWORK.COM/JOIN. R1 IS ABOUT KOREAN AIR AND ONE
OF THE MOST AMAZING THINGS I’VE EVER READ THAT YOU LOVE THE
STORY. WHAT PEOPLE WERE WILLING, NOT
WILLING TO DO EVEN IF THEY ARE GOING TO DIE. AND RICHARD MARX,
WHO REMEMBERS HIM? HE’S APPARENTLY MARRIED TO DAISY
FUENTES. THE DORITOS GIRL. I THINK SO. SHE WAS A STAR FROM BACK IN THE
DAY TO. SHE IS PART OF THE REASON I
STARTED THE YOUNG TURKS. WHAT? WHAT IS THIS? BECOME A MEMBER, FIND OUT I WAS
ALL THAT IN THE POST GAME TODAY. TYTNETWORK.COM/JOIN.

  1. Oh, heavens forbid that a flightatendant with a taser harm a member of the religion of peace when they try to hijack the plane!

  2. Let's see. We could prevent out bursts by making flight less stressful, or we can scare passengers into submission with tasers and penis.

  3. The so called ¨experts¨ are telling people that air marshals don´t need frangible bullets because a hole in the plane won´t cause the plane to explode like a horror movie. More NRA propaganda. Those frangible bullets are not a light touch against a water filled human body. They actually work better. It´s that part about them not punching holes into a plane! So thank the NRA when your friends and loved ones get their horror movie death.

  4. brain says
"Is there an age limit on who can be tased for being unruly? There's plenty of assholy crying children on flights…"
[Days since brain has thought of something terrible: 0]

  5. The Young Turks is a place that gives me a constant stream of random news stories that are wrapped in dad jokes. I love it

  6. Tasers, also, can kill and what if you miss and hit someone else on a very crowded plane? I agree with Ana, no tasers for airline attendants. There are enough people on planes that can easily tackle down any disrupter.

  7. You don't need rope or tasers just get those cheap nylon zip ties, and cuff their hands to the chair. Also, cut people off after two drinks, yeah it might hurt the bottom line, but you can't be letting people get rowdy on planes.

  8. The passengers will help if it gets really out of hand. No need for tasers. What they should do is include instructions on how passengers can help subdue an unruly person in the pre-flight safety instructions.

  9. Not 10 seconds into the video and I'm already laughing. Keep it up and you'll be up there with Larry the cable Guy and Jeff Dunham in terms of comedy.

  10. Don't know about Koreans but Chinese aeroplane/travel passengers are the worst. The Chinese airline staff are so soft and submisive to the unruly customers. It makes total sense for any airline to train their staff more in dealing with disruptive people. All I want to do it squeeze into my tiny chair with no leg room and close my eyes whilst listening to some random album during my flight.

  11. The reason flying sucks is because it's become a form of public transport. Everyone flies, including crazy and annoying people.
Back in the day the seats were bigger and you were treated with respect, why? Because the plane was full of upper class white people. That's it, that's the only reason. So stop whining and appreciate the equality.

  12. How is this a bad thing? You want an idiot having a meltdown when you'd trapped in a metal tube going hundreds of miles an hour? I'd trip the damned fool and apply pressure to their neck with my knee until they stopped moving. Tasers are the least insane option, a gun obviously would be incredibly stupid on a plane, mace/pepper spray would hit everyone else on the plane, you can't use anything like a baton because you literally have no space to swing, don't want a knife either, so what would you suggest, just grappling the idiot like I suggest and crushing their windpipe until they stop struggling?

  13. I agree with Anna however believe there are some bad ass women with martial arts training and the strength to subdue an unruly passenger…all about equality (and is so entertaining to see some guy have his ass handed to him by a woman a third of his size).

  14. If you watch the video of that guy that was out of control, 38000 feet in the air in a confined space, you'd understand why they want to arm their flight attendants. This guy was yelling in peoples faces, spitting on their faces multiple times and he kicked a female flight attendant so hard in the stomach she can hardly breathe. Anna tends to forget flight attendants are there for the safety and security of all guests, so instead of her worrying about them being power trippers she should support them by any means of keeping her safe.

  15. Why a male? I'm a female black belt, that's chauvinist, and most male Stewart's are gay and effeminate, how about hiring more competent, stronger people regardless of sex and require martial arts training or submission holds?

  16. The real story is not an airline's reaction to a growing problem, the real story is that a drunk guy was harrassing LOL Richard LOL Marx LOL on a plane to the point where he had to be restrained, and still managed to slip his bindings on 3 separate occasions. What was he doing, going back at Marx for more? LOL

Anybody who grew up in the 80s/90s would know who Richard Marx is, and can just imagine what was being said to him!

  17. This is completely off topic but I LOOOOOOVE your sweater Ana! PLEEEASE tell me, where did you get it from?

  18. They're not talking about the attendants carrying one on their hip. There'd be one handheld type secured at either end of the plane.

  19. you can start fining and putting repeat offenders on industry watch lists and the utmost repercussion is prosecution and banning for life.

3 strike laws to be advertised, effective deterence.

have people watch an instructional video on common decency and adult behaviour when ever safety demonstrations are show before each take off.

for those who have grievances with flight attendance and other passengers, there must a formal process in place and noting to lodge complaints and restitutions with some kind of independent impartial industry board.

another deterence for both offending passengers and flight attendents is to have a "this flight is installed with live recording cameras for everyones protection"

  20. Funny how they translate "Latest device to tie up a violent passenger" to "taser" and revolve the entire story around it!

Untrained people are very likely to escalate an already dangerous event. Training is key to this whole story!
But no. Ana really needs to spin it to play the indignant little tart she is.

  21. TYT is using their own culture to critisise the actions of people of another. In the US having thier flight attendants have tasers would be a bad idea as in the US you are percieved worldwide to be quick to action/anger and trigger happy. In the UK it would be a bad idea as we have had some bad experiences with civilian organisations in being allowed to use force. In Korea it would be an entirely different matter, their culture is different, the training they put their people through is different. For all we know it could be handled properly and ONLY be used as a "last option available" if someone is causing a danger to the plane and it's passengers (like filght attendants being trained to use defibrilators)

  22. well think about this for a moment shall we? what if say the taser went off and hit the hall of the plane and short circuits the wiring in the plane causing it to crash or perhaps what happens is they hit a passenger with a gun and the gun therefore shoots some random passenger and the passenger dies. There are also other things to consider such as the fact that they are cases we're tasers has caused death s to civilians which could put the airlines in a position of liability. so f*** wad who did the risk assessment on this obviously did not consider all the variables. in most cases it's reasonable to talk somebody down and deescalate the situation if possible or Surrender and possibly minimize the risk by crashing it with the hopes of limiting the threat to people on the ground and maybe with a little luck some survivors.

  23. passengers (males?), should be stepping up to protect the aircraft from an idiot who can't control himself. They have a HUGE vested interest in seeing that they keep the plane safer. Step up boys!…don't sit there on your arse while a female flight attendant is trying to subdue or calm down some nutcase on a plane.
Tazers!?? NO!…They'll wrestle one away from a flight attendant and go through the plane tazering everyone..

  24. Airlines should start a data base that they share on troublemakers on flights and two strikes you're out. Meaning you can't fly anymore banned for life on any commercial flight.

  25. companies can teach FEMALE fly attendant self defense or learn the techniques used by viking female warriors

  26. That's so sexist of you, Ana. why do the flight attendants need to be male. You just assume we're bigger and more physically capable. why can't they be women?

  27. Having tasers on a plane is scary because it's such close quarters. If they taser the person next to me, and the tasered person touches me, I'm getting shocked too. Finding a way to subdue people on a plane for safety reasons makes sense, but tasers in such close quarters is not thought through.

  28. Hiring more male flight attendants makes sense. Korean Air hire females mostly based on there looks. If you looked at the videos the female flight attendants are skinny as hell. The flight attendant (supposedly trained) held a taser but didn't use because of fear of getting the wrong person by accident. In Korea men are required by law to go into the military so if a taser had to be used at least it would be by someone with better training.

  29. That Korean Air even needs to implement something like this tells me that there're a lot more unruly passengers than there have been in the past. So we either need to make people take classes about how to behave in public (because they clearly lack the common sense to do so on their own), or we need to give flight attendants more training (& maybe more leeway) in dealing with unruly passengers. Because when it comes down to it, when you fly, you're in a tiny pressurized tube thousands of feet in the air. For everyone's safety, unruly passengers need to be dealt with as quickly as possible – there's not much time or room for diplomacy.

  30. I'm sorry after seeing that video I'm with this 100%.
When you go nuts on a plane or a boat you put everyone in danger.
That crazy guy from Korean Air needed his ass kicked.

  31. It's a shame about hiring more male flight attendants. Korean Air could just train their female flight attendants in Hapkido so they can take down a passenger.

  32. Wait, did I just hear Anna say KAL should hire male flight attendants because the females are too weak to handle an unruly male passenger? Miss "I can carry a small man across 19 feet of stage so female soldiers are just as capable as the males."

  33. Couldn't An Organized Terrorist Steal The Taser, Take Out The Pilot, Lock The Door And Crash The Plane? Couldn't An Organized Group Of Buff Male Terrorists Get Hired As Undercover Flight Attendants And Hijack The Plane?…Of Course They Could… It Is Far Safer To Leave It How It Is… Slim Korean Girls.

  34. Hmmm… sort of amazed that noone mentioned alcohol, yet. How about, as first measure, not serve alcohol on planes and not allow drunk people to board? If the problem persists to significant extent after that, we can still consider other measures.

  35. Maybe if airlines stopped serving alcohol on flights the way they stopped smoking on flights they might see less problems .

  36. Why is this shocking? Put the offender down so he stays down. If that takes tasers then so be it. Don't want to get tased? DON'T do things to get tased! Easy.

  37. I'm not for the tasers, but one thing to consider for this story is that the attitude of flight attendants on Asian airlines like KAL is quite different from western ones. The flight attendants are notably less arrogant and more subdued on those airlines, probably due to the Asian culture of service. So I would be less worried about abuse of power by them, thought I'm not saying it can't happen of course.

  38. Then your psycho passenger grabs taser from 95# flight attendant, and then goes up aisle "tickling" every piece of visible flesh! Clever Korea, very clever.

  39. The amount of lawsuits that could come from just a single, unruly passenger, who then get tased resulting in some fatal heart attack or cardiac arrest should absolutely be a concern for the airline. Honestly, the amount of money that this new 'decision' will cost is not worth it.

  40. Guys, I love you, but please stop using click-baity ALL CAPS WORDS in your titles. It makes you seem less credible and not very professional.

  41. only a minute in and Ana already makes both the case FOR them to have tasers and openly states that she just simply doesn't want them to have them. Are you serious right now?

  42. Generally, hostile flight attendants isn't as much of a problem in Asian and European airlines as it is on U.S. airlines.
