(MM) RIDOT SAYS THAT THE FIRST DAY ADJUSTING TO A NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN IS OFTEN THE HARDEST… BUT THEY HAVE ALREADY MADE A CHANGE TO TRY TO HELP SOME OF THE DELAYS. YESTERDAY WE SAW TRAFFIC BACKED UP TO THE MASSACHUSSETTS STATE LINE IN THE MORNING. IT WAS THE FIRST DAY OF THE CLOSURE OF THE GANO STREET EXIT… AND THE CHANGE TO THE TAUNTON AVENUE ON RAMP. THIS IS A HEAVILY TRAVELED PART OF 195 WEST— RIDOT ESTIMATES 70 THOUSAND VEHICLES GO OVER EACH DAY. DAVE FISH– ADMINISTRATOR OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT AT RIDOT— TELLS US THAT THEY’VE ADDED MORE BARRELS TO EXTEND THE MERGE AREA FOR CARS GETTING ON THE 195 WEST FROM TAUNTON AVENUE we put barrels there to prevent people from doing that and keep them on the merge, the ramp merge area for a longer period of time so they can work their way into the main line traffic and that helps people move through the work zone a lot more efficiently (MM) SOME OF THE THINGS RIDOT SUGGESTED IF YOU ARE A DRIVER WHO USES THIS PART OF 195 WEST DAILY— PLAN FOR INCREASE IN COMMUTE TIME, SEEK ALTERNATIVE ROUTES, STAY IN YOUR LANE. COMPLETION FOR THIS PROJECT IS EXPECTED IN 2020.
