I think the role of a counselor is to be an agent of change. I help people change their lives. I was limited with my psychology degree, just a bachelor’s. I wasn’t able to do the things that I really wanted to do and help people. I wanted to really understand people and why people do the things that they do. The counseling degree just helped me to fine-tune all of that. I chose University of Phoenix for my master’s degree in counseling because I was working full-time and I needed something that was convenient that would work with my schedule but it was the faculty that really made a difference in my education. The stories that they would share about working in private practice or working in the field, that enhanced any material that we were learning about. The presentations and learning teams definitely helped me to be better socially because I had to work with other people. I had to present in front of people. The counseling degree at the University of Phoenix has helped me to be able to do what I do every day and help people change their lives.
