ALLEN: MANY OF THE COLLEGE
AND CLEMSON ALIKE, WHO BOOKED A
ROOM AT THE CLEMSON COURTYARD
HOTEL ARE FRUSTRATED, SAYING THE
RESERVATIONS THEY MADE IT NINE
MONTHS AGO FOR A BIG GAME DAY WERE CANCELED. JOHN THOPPIL: I CAN’T BELIEVE
MARRIOT, AS A CHAIN, WOULD EVER
DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS. ALLEN: THAT’S THE VOICE OF JOHN
THOPPIL, A TEXAS A&M FAN WHO
BOOKED A ROOM AT THE CLEMSON
COURTYARD HOTEL TO SEE HIS
AGGIES PLAY CLEMSON IN DEATH
VALLEY ON SEPTEMBER 7. HIS RESERVATIONS, BOOKED 10
MONTHS IN ADVANCE. YESTERDAY, HE RECEIVED AN EMAIL
FROM MARRIOT SAYING THE HOTEL
OVERBOOKED BY 100 ROOMS, AND HE
NO LONGER HAD ONE.>>THE CHANCE OF FINDING
ANYTHING IS NOW COMPLETELY GONE. ALLEN: BUT HE’S NOT ALONE. WE LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND
FLURRIES OF COMMENTS, BLOGS, AND
FORUMS FROM DISGRUNTLED A&M AND
CLEMSON FANS, WHO WERE ALL
RECENTLY TOLD THEIR RESERVATIONS
FOR THE SAME WEEKEND AT THE SAME HOTEL, WERE GONE. THE MARRIOT DIDN’T NOTIFY ANYONE
ABOUT THEIR MISTAKE UNTIL WEEKS
BEFORE THE GAME, AND THE ONLY
THING OFFERED IN RETURN,
RESERVATIONS IN GREENVILLE,
ALMOST AN HOUR AWAY. ACCORDING — AWAY. ACCORDING TO CADE RICHARDSON,
ANOTHER A&M FAN WHO ALSO
RECEIVED THE BAD NEWS. CADE RICHARDSON: IT KIND OF
RUINED THE TRIP FOR US, AND SO
WE DECIDED WE’RE NOT GONNA GO AT
ALL. ALLEN: THE MANAGER OF THE HOTEL
DECLINED TO COMMENT, REGIONAL
MANAGEMENT HAS NOT RESPONDED TO
OUR REQUEST. JOHN THOPPIL: WHAT’S THE POINT
OF A RESERVATION IF YOU CAN’T
TRUST IT? ALLEN: ANOTHER BIG TALKING POINT
ABOUT THE STORY IS THESE ROOMS
IN CLEMSON WERE ORIGINALLY
BOOKED AROUND $130 A NIGHT, BUT
THOSE RATES ARE GONE. THE LEWIS RATES
